History of Diplomatic Relations

The United State of America recognized the independence of the Republic of Moldova on December 25, 1991 and established diplomatic relations with our country on February 28, 1992. The Republic of Moldova opened its Embassy in Washington, DC, in December 1993, after the United States of America did the same thing in our capital Chisinau, in March 1992.

H.E. Mihail Manoli was appointed by presidential decree as the Moldovan Ambassador to the USA on May 18, 2002 and presented his Letters of Credence to the President of United States of America, George W. Bush, on June 12, 2002

H.E. Heather M. Hodges was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova on September 12, 2003 and presented her Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, on October 10, 2003.
