Important news.
On June 8, 2006 the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova
has adopted the law nr. 151-XVI . According to the legislative
act „ Starting the 1st of January 2007 the visa regime for
the citizens of the member states of the European Union, United
States of America, Canada, the Swiss Confederation and Japan
is abolished.”
The rights and obligations of the foreign citizens that enter
the Republic of Moldova under the law are regulated by the
legislation of the Republic of Moldova. For additional information
regarding the given subject as well as the conditions of entry,
stay and exit from the Republic of Moldova please do not hesitate
to contact the Consular Section of the Embassy of Republic
of Moldova in Washington D.C.
In order to obtain a Moldovan visa applicants should
submit the following documents:
1. A valid, signed passport (no copies), with visas pages
available. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months
after the expected departure from Moldova.
2. One filled out visa application form (printed or written
in block letters). Fax paper forms are not accepted. It may
be copied or multiplied from the fax paper.
3. One passport-size photo.
4. Consular processing fee in proper payment (money order
or company check made out to the Embassy of Moldova). Children
under 16 years old get visa free of charge. Moldovan-born
individuals residing abroad are eligible for a 50% discount
of the visa fee. Note: The 50% discount is not applicable
to the holders of travel document.
5. For citizens of Israel and Turkey applying for a 6 and
12 months visa a letter of invitation from a private person
or an organization is required. For citizens of all other
countries, but those mentioned above, a letter of invitation
from a private person or an organization is required for all
types of visa. The invitation letter on behalf of an organization
has to be authorized by the Consular Department of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova before being
submitted to the Embassy.
6. A pre-paid, self-addressed envelope is required. In order
to avoid papers loss we do not recommend sending them by regular
mail. Note: The Embassy does not bear responsibility for delays
or losses beyond its control in the U.S. mail or any other
courier services.

There is an additional $ 5 non-refundable visa application
fee paid by a separate company check or money order (except
official passports and visa applications for children untill
16 years old). Note: The Embassy does not accept personal
checks or cash.
Our regular processing takes 5 business days. One business
day rush processing requires an additional fee of 50% of the
visa fee.
Please be advised that according to the Moldovan legislation,
the citizen of the Republic of Moldova that also has the citizenship
of another country, in relation with the Republic of Moldova
is recognized only as a Moldovan citizen. In this view, the
Consular Section will not issue visas for American, Canadian,
Mexican citizens that also have Moldovan passport, even if
the validity of the passport expired. For details on this
matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Note: The holders of diplomatic passports of the countries
mentioned above (1) do not need visas for the period up to
3 months. The holders of diplomatic passports of all other
countries are exempted from all indicated fees.
